To say I am honored for receiving this award is an understatement. I’ve never been one to submit photographs into competitions with my peers until this portrait was captured. I’ve always felt that my clients with their continued support, referring me to family & friends, and hanging their portraits on the wall was more than enough – and that is still how I feel. Though, it does feel pretty amazing, to receive my very first bronze award in the teen portrait category of the Portraits Masters 2021 Awards in a community of some of the most talented image-makers of our time.
There was no pre-determined composition, pose, or idea leading up to the making of this portrait. As our photoshoot was coming to an end, the sun was setting, I wanted to wrap up the shoot with a few laying down photos – always a favorite with my high school seniors.
As I began to move around for lighting, posing, and composition, I noticed how this leaf extended over Liz’s eye giving such a dramatic look. A single capture to freeze this moment. I was wowed then am still wowed every time I walk by the studio and see this portrait hanging on the wall.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say, the competition bug has bitten me and I am excited to submit additional portraits to the next call for entries.
